Tactical urbanism in Bucaramanga

The implementation of tactical urban planning actions took place in Bucaramanga from January 16 to 20, 2023 in the Granjas de Provenza neighborhood. This, as a result of a process of diagnosis and co-creation with the community, local governments and other actors for three years. During this process, the Urban Inclusion Marker led to identify the places where to carry out the actions; the Human Mobility Profile identified the situation of the host community and migrants; In the co-creation processes with the community, they expressed what they wanted and where they wanted it. As a result of the process, the community chose the neighborhood interconnection stairs of the Granjas de Provenza neighborhood to receive tactical urban planning actions, and it was also decided to create an open classroom for neighborhood boys and girls to receive classes, led by Professor Nelson Pajaro.

Mr. Pajaro is a community leader who has already been involved with the Inclusive Cities program and whom, supported by the project, teaches photography classes to minors and has received support material from Inclusive Cities.

Street art, lighting, safe handrails were installed, and intermediate landings were added to the neighborhood interconnection stairs, while the open classroom was created entirely in a space that previously had nothing. The community was actively involved and collaborated dynamically with the creation and adaptation of the aforementioned spaces, generating appropriation of them. These tactical urban planning actions promote the integration of the refugee and migrant community with the host communities, and generate bonds of social cohesion that lead to a positive transformation of their neighbourhoods, their quality of life and the endogenous development of cities and territories.
