Tactical urbanism actions were delivered to the community and to the municipality of Surquillo in Lima. Tactical Urbanism is a collaborative process to reclaim public space and maximize its shared value. It is carried out through light, low-cost and rapid implementation interventions to explore alternatives to improve the spaces.
The San Felipe market and the Recavarren street were the chosen scenarios to implement the actions, which were carried out from December 19 to 23, 2022. In the San Felipe market an adjacent space was recovered, which includes a sports and pedestrian circuit, in which the sports field of the working-class neighborhood Primero de Mayo was painted by the acclaimed Peruvian urban artist Mucho.
On the other hand, gastronomic terraces were built on Recavarren street, in order to créate a space to support entrepreneurship and integration dynamics between the Venezuelan migrant community and the host community in Lima, since in these terraces both the population in human mobility condition and the host population find a place where job creation, income generation and friendship come together.
With these actions, not only public space was improved, but integration was effectively encouraged and conflict prevention was promoted.
