Bucaramanga participates in the World Urban Forum 11

Bucaramanga participated in the 11th edition of the World Urban Forum, held in Katowice, Poland, from June 26 to 30, 2022. Juan Carlos Cardenas, Mayor of Bucaramanga, participated in the panel “Tools and data analysis to evaluate and follow up on territorial integration”, framed in the Inclusive Cities, Communities of Solidarity project, an event that aimed to present, disseminate and position information tools that allow evaluating and monitoring the integration conditions of venezuelan refugees and migrants in their host communities based on 3 conditions: governance structure, socioeconomic condition and spatial plot. In this sense, two tools were presented: the Local Migratory Governance Index and the Urban Inclusion Marker.
Bucaramanga is one of the cities in which Inclusive Cities is present, and Cardenas also took part in a round table in which representatives of two other cities in which the project is present also participated: Barranquilla and Lima.

The mayor highlighted the importance of multisectoral information for strategic decision-making processes, especially those related to risk management and climate change. Among the risk conditions, it is important to consider human mobility and build resilient cities with the capacity to adapt to current challenges.

Cardenas also represented Bucaramanga in other forum events such as the World Assembly of Local and Regional Governments; the Strategic Meeting of Mayors of Latin America and the Caribbean on the implementation of local agendas towards sustainable and inclusive urban development and the conference on innovative solutions of participatory budgets for the provision of services and the reconstruction of the social contract in fragile contexts. He also met with the technology area of UN-Habitat.
