The ball has no borders

June 17 was the last day of the activity “The ball has no borders”. During 17 intense weeks of games, soccer and volleyball, more than two hundred refugee, migrant and host community children and teenagers participated in weekly social-sports sessions, as well as milestones and activations. With a work methodology that has sought to encourage solidarity, respect and empathy to promote social cohesion between the local communities, residents of the district and refugees and migrants who now reside in Surquillo, the kids shared integration activities encouraging therefore a proper reception of the refugee and migrant population through the activities mentioned above, in which the district municipality of Surquillo also participated on behalf of the Lima mayor’s office.

This initiative is of great importance since it promotes social cohesion and prevents conflicts between children and their families, both from the refugee and migrant population and from the host communities, through a socio-sports methodology. The specific activities were divided into three lines of action, which were kept and customized in the implementations in the districts in order to adapt to the context and specific needs; These lines are: social sports sessions, activations with the community and methodological transfer and leadership.
