IntegrHa-bitat center from Barranquilla receives award at the World Urban Forum

The Local Integration Center for Migrants located in Barranquilla was awarded during the World Urban Forum 11, held in Katowize, Poland, from June 26 to 30, 2022. The center won the award in the Humanitarian Assistance and Access to Social Protection category and presented how its care model centralizes the national, district and local offer, articulated with international cooperation, to effectively serve the population in a situation of human mobility in Barranquilla and how it has advanced in articulating actions with the host community to achieve integration processes in the city. Jennifer Villarreal, Secretary of the Government of Barranquilla, highlighted during the event that the city understands the importance and value of Venezuelan migrants who enrich the city, adding that the local integration center has focused on comprehensively supporting migrants, bringing together in a single place the educational, health and employability offer of the municipality, as well as international cooperation, but not limited to the center as such but taking these services to the neighborhoods, which has had a positive impact both for refugees and migrants and for the host community. Jaime Pumarejo, mayor of Barranquilla, received the award on behalf of the center.
